Recently, DLP Real Estate Capital team members, through the DLP Positive Returns Foundation and in conjunction with St. John’s Housing Partnership, volunteered their time and talents in building a handicap accessible ramp for a USAF Korean War Veteran living in St. Augustine, Florida.
The 86-year old Vet and his wife live in a mobile home with a motorized chair lift at the entrance. Unfortunately, due to exposure to the outdoors, the lift became unusable and with an expensive replacement cost, the couple could not afford to purchase a new one.
The ramp was installed to allow him direct unassisted access from his porch to his driveway without needing to get into or out of any devices. Total cost of supplies needed was just under $2,000 and paid for by the DLP Positive Returns Foundation.
Don Wenner, Founder and CEO commented, “It was truly our honor and privilege to help this distinguished veteran and his wife. Giving him better mobility in and around his home will help him breathe easier and our team of volunteers were thrilled to spend the day with them and the many neighbors that stopped by. Our foundation is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations through providing a hand up in the pursuit of affordable housing, homeownership, fulfilling employment, and entrepreneurship.”
The veteran’s wife commented, “It’s such a blessing for him to be able to maneuver up the ramp and into the house and not take a chance on falling. We are so grateful to St. Johns Housing Partnership for the service they provided us.”
